Bawdeswell Village Hall
Creating a brighter future
Welcome
Welcome again one and all. What can I say about this weather, although we have now had a few days of rain which is most welcomed by the gardens I’m sure, as well as by us mere mortals as it does bring the temperatures down a bit but then up goes the humidity when the sun comes out again. You can’t win sometimes can you. So what’s been happening down at your village hall this last month. The film Juror #2 was very well attended and was a very good film. Quite thought provoking with an ending left up to the viewer as to the outcome. Unfortunately the heat had upset our sky light blinds and they flatly refused to come down and block out the early evening sun. So we took the decision to go ahead with the film but not charge anyone as they may not be able to see the film properly. But what wonderful people we have in the village and around as many if not all put a donation in the box and we were able to break even. I can confirm that the blinds are now working and no lasting damage has occurred.
As I write this I am still enjoying the satisfaction of a nice full tummy from the excellent ploughman’s & pud lunch put on instead of the monthly soup & pud. Well done Carol, Josie, Betty and the very talented chefs who made the delicious puds and to everyone else who contributed in what ever way towards a lovely lunch.
So what’s coming up. August is usually a quiet month for main events at the hall, but the Summer Afternoon Café is running every weekday of the school holidays for parents and carers to bring their little ones along to enjoy a cuppa, an ice cream and have the use of the toilets. Our volunteers put a lot of time and effort into running the café, so please make use of it and come and give them a thumbs up for the work they do. The prices are extremely reasonable and I believe I’m correct in saying that the squash for the kids is free. The monthly film night on the 9th August is showing the film “Wicked”.
There are a number of events coming up in September and October, namely The Last Night of The Proms live screening on the big screen with surround sound. Donations are welcome but the event is free. That’s on the 13th Sept. On the 20th is our regular film night showing the film “The Penguin Lessons” starring Steve Coogan. On the 4th Oct. BEG are hosting “Maxims Cotton Club” and finally don’t forget to put in your diaries the 25th Oct. is Bawdeswells Big Quiz night hosted by yours truly. The questions are mainly easy…if you know the answers… I can promise a fun filled evening of jollity and you will go home enriched with knowledge you didn’t think you needed to know. You can see details of all these events under our EVENTS page.

The Hall is a place for the community to be proud of. Careful thought has gone into creating a space which is flexible, welcoming and practical. With various rooms available for hire and modern facilities throughout, the Hall is a venue where local clubs and societies can meet and where special events and celebrations, both public and private, can take place. It is also a space for local businesses to use for meetings, to showcase their services and to interact with the community of Bawdeswell and the surrounding villages.
